The Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi has arrived in Baghdad for a visit to expand ICT cooperation with Iraq as well as enhance providing services to the pilgrims of the upcoming Arbaeen mourning processions in early August.
Accompanied by two deputies,
Hashemi was welcomed at the airport by the Iranian ambassador in Iraq and the deputy
ICT minister of Iraq.
Upon his arrival in Baghdad, the ICT
Minister paid tribute at the memorial commemorating the martyrdom of General
Martyr Haj Qasem Soleimani, and visited the holy shrines of Imam Musa al-Kazim
(PBUH) and Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (PBUH) to pay his respects.
This visit is taking place as part
of the ICT Ministry’s plans to improve the quality of services for Arbaeen
pilgrims, as well as to deepen bilateral cooperation between Iran and Iraq in
the fields of communications, information technology, and emerging
technologies.
Hashemi is scheduled to meet with
his Iraqi counterpart and the acting minister of higher education and scientific
research to discuss expanding joint cooperation in the fields of
communications, information technology, and emerging technologies.
His visit includes specialized
meetings with Iraqi communications and telecommunications operators aimed at
coordinating the provision of higher-quality communications services for Arbaeen
pilgrims, improving roaming quality, and strengthening the communications
infrastructure of the two countries.
This visit follows the ICT Ministry's
plans for Arbaeen processions, a program whose implementation Hashemi had
previously emphasized during the first meeting of the Ministry's Arbaeen
Headquarters.
He termed coordination between
Iranian and Iraqi operators, development of communications infrastructure along
routes leading to border crossings, elimination of communications blind zones,
acceleration of the deployment of new sites, and the integrated provision of
services required by pilgrims through the Arbaeen Portal as the Ministry's
highest priorities for delivering effective services to the pilgrims.
